With less than a week to go until the FINA/CNSG Diving World Series arrives in London, British divers bagged a duo of bronze medals on the final day of the penultimate leg.
Tom Daley claimed the first of the day’s podium spots for Great Britain in the Men’s 10m Platform. Off the back of his synchro bronze with Matty Lee on Friday and Platform gold at the previous series leg in Canada, the London-based diver was looking strong.
He dived steady throughout the rounds but Russia’s Bondar and China’s Yang were diving big and had pulled away on the leader board early on.
Daley saved his best to last, his sixth round dive he scored a giant 102.60, the only dive to score more than 100 points in the final, with his Back 3 ½ Somersaults Piked (207B).
A final score of 520.40 ensured that the bronze medal was his, and just 2.20 points separated him from Aleksandr Bondar of Russia who collected the silver medal in front of a home crowd and China’s Hao Yang took the gold.
There was no time for Daley to rest as he was straight back to the boards, this time only at 3m, as he joined up with Dive London teammate and training partner Grace Reid in the Mixed 3m Synchro.
After the opening two rounds, the GB pair were ranked second and delivered the highest scoring required dive of all the synchro partnerships, 51.00 for their Reverse Dive Piked (301B).
Moving into the later rounds of the final the gold and silver medal positions ended up being a dogfight between Australia and China, with the former coming out on top.
Daley and Reid eventually finished with a score of 304.14 and bronze to add to their synchro silver at the Montreal leg.
Earlier in the session, Reid went in the Women’s 3m Springboard final. After a consistent set of dives in the morning, she booked herself into the afternoon medal contest.
A world-class field lined up for the final and despite another strong performance, Grace finished fifth overall, her final score 290.05.
The gold was claimed by Canada’s Jennifer Abel and the Chinese team continued their dominance of the 2019 World Series podium as divers Lin and Chang picked up silver and bronze respectively.
Also in action the Women’s 3m event was Kat Torrance she narrowly missed out on a finals berth after she finished fourth in her semi-final with a score of 266.80.

The London Aquatics Centre will host the fifth and final of leg of the 2019 FINA/CNSG Diving World Series, 17-19 May, with more medals and the overall series titles up for grabs.
