Heatly eyes Gold Coast gold

20 Feb 2018

James Heatly is one of four divers selected for the Scottish Commonwealth Diving team.

He will join Grace Reid, Gemma McArthur and Lucas Thomas on the Gold Coast in April hoping to build on recent success which saw him take a bronze in the British Diving Championships 1m and 3m competitions.

The 20-year-old said: “It’s great to be selected, and be up against people who are quite often my British teammates. But we have competed against each other in individual competitions and this is no different - you always want to win.

“When it comes to the Commonwealths I definitely want to be the one finishing top.

“I really think spending time together means I have some behind the scenes knowledge so I will know people’s strengths and weaknesses across the other home nations teams.

“If any of the other British guys were to win a medal and I didn’t I would be proud of them. But at the end of the day, anyone in sport wants to win, and this is no different!”

James is one of four divers selected for Commonwealth Games Scotland’s squad:

James Heatly - Edinburgh Diving Club

Gemma McArthur - Southampton Diving Academy

Grace Reid - Dive London

Lucas Thomson - Edinburgh Diving Club
