Synchro pairs secure World Cup bronzes in Canada

2 Mar 2026

Ben Cutmore and Euan McCabe delivered a synchro bronze medal from the 10m Platform on their series debut in Montreal, while Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding showed their early season form to round off the Men’s 3m Synchro podium.

With Britain’s team of eight divers joining 130 of the world’s top athletes in descending on Montreal, the opening stop of the 2026 World Aquatics Diving World Cup series presented the sole qualifying opportunity for May’s Super Final in Beijing, China, following the cancellation of the stop in Zapopan, Mexico.

Cutmore, McCabe, Laugher and Harding will enter that showcase at the iconic Water Cube venue from the 2008 Olympic Games, having picked up World Cup series silverware in the Centre sportif du Parc Olympique – 50 years on since these facilities themselves hosted Olympic diving competition.

Making their debut bow on the World Cup stage, Cutmore and McCabe put together an impressive list of six dives in the Men’s 10m Synchro to take bronze – with McCabe building upon his own fifth place individual finish in the platform events.

The British duo’s impressive Forward 4½ Somersaults Tuck (109C) in the penultimate round scored a huge 82.14 point to propel them into the medal places, and their closing effort saw the pair finish just under one and a half points shy of the Mexican team in silver as China took gold.

Speaking to World Aquatics, Cutmore was thrilled with the outcome having missed his individual through illness.

“I was locked in my room for 48 hours,” he explained. “I only came back to training on Thursday, so we came into this hoping that we would be in the top eight so that we could be in the Super Final. But we came away with bronze. It’s a bit surreal.”

Adding on the experience of going up against world-leading pairs:

"Their diving is always impeccable, and they're very inspiring to watch and to compete against because it always sets the standard [we’re aspiring to consistently reach]."

Meanwhile Laugher and Harding were first to put a British medal on the board, with the Men’s 3m Synchro podium an exact replica of that at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore – finishing in bronze behind the Chinese and Mexican pairs.

Bouncing back from slip down the rankings in the third round, Laugher and Harding kicked-off a string of three 75-plus point dives with a superb Forward 2 1/2 Somersaults 2 Twists (5154B) as they built towards a closing tally of 396.66 points and claimed their spot on the podium.

Commenting on what was his 53rd World Aquatics career medal, Laugher said:

“They're all hung up at home! I've got some really nice metal bars that I put them on. I cherish every single one that I get.”
