Carlin and Halsall nominated for Sky Sports award

Jazz Carlin and Fran Halsall have been nominated for the Sky Sports News Sportswomen of the Month award.

The pair are up against four other athletes for the August award. Voting is open until midnight on Monday 8 September and the winner will be announced during the Sportswomen prgoramme on Tuesday.

Both athletes followed up impressive Commonwealth Games performances with further success at the recent European Championships in Berlin.  

Jazz Carlin

Carlin won gold medals in both the 400m and 800m Freestyle at the recent European Championships in Berlin to cap an incredible month.

At the end of July the 23-year-old became the first Welsh swimmer to win a Commonwealth title for 40 years after her triumph in the 800m Freestyle at Glasgow 2014. She also took home a silver medal in the 400m Freestyle.

Fran Halsall

Halsall followed up a successful Commonwealth Games, where she claimed two gold medals and two silvers, by going one better and claiming five medals at the European Championships in Berlin.

The Loughborough swimmer won gold in the 50m Backstroke and the 50m Freestyle, before adding a third record as part of the 4x100m Mixed Medley Relay team that smashed the previous mark by over two-and-a-half seconds.

The 24-year old also won bronze medals in the 50m Butterfly and as part of the 4x100m Freestyle Relay team.
