The British Gas GBR Swimming team opened up their European Championship campaign with two bronze medals to begin their medal tally.
Jay Lelliott put in an excellent swim in the 400m Freestyle to win the first medal for the Brits with a bronze medal.
Serbia’s Velimir Stjepanovic took the race out hard and carved out a huge three second lead at the half way point but the Brit kept up with the pace to remain in medal contention throughout.
Lelliott finished in a new personal best time of 3:47.50 to win his first European medal.
Stjepanovic won the gold followed by Italy’s Andrew Mitchell D’Arrigo.
"I knew the 400 would be the hardest to do back-to-back and that was my third fastest time ever,"
- Aimee Willmott
Willmott timed her race perfectly to come back onto Mireia Belmonte Garcia’s shoulder in the breaststroke leg. She continued with good pace and secured her first medal of the competition.
"I am happy to come away with the bronze after the Commonwealth Games," Willmott said. "I knew the 400 would be the hardest to do back-to-back and that was my third fastest time ever.
"I paced the race a lot better than in Glasgow even though my time wasn't as quick I learnt more from that race than I did at the Commonwealths."
Adam Peaty continued to impress with a new British record time of 58.68 to qualify fastest for the 100m Breaststroke final. He will be joined by Ross Murdoch for tomorrow's final.
Also progressing to tomorrow’s finals are Francesca Halsall (50m Butterfly), Chris Walker-Hebborn (100m Backstroke), Lizzie Simmonds (200m Backstroke), Ben Proud and Adam Barrett (50m Butterfly).
