British Swimming has added emerging talent Katie Matts to its World Class Programme at Podium Potential level following some impressive early season performances by the teenager.

Katie (16), who swims 100m and 200m Breaststroke event, has improved her performances and has been rewarded with a place on the programme which includes camp, competition and sport support.

Currently studying for A-Levels, Katie trains with Stockport Metro High Performance Centre following her earlier development at City of Salford.

British Swimming Head of Performance Pathway Tim Jones is pleased to add another swimmer to the ranks of talent focussed towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“Katie’s performances this season have seen her take a significant step forwards and she will now add to a growing upward pressure from the strongest group of young breaststroke females than we’ve seen in a good period of time,” said Jones.

“While the majority of our investment decisions will always take place at the end of a season, it’s important for athletes and coaches to understand that we are always keeping a close eye out for new and emerging talent.”
