Rudin and Coates win gold and silver at Worlds

25 Aug 2015

Britain celebrated their first medals of the FINA World Junior Championships in emphatic fashion with gold and silver both coming in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley thanks to Rosie Rudin and Georgia Coates..

Rudin set a new World Junior and Championship Record in Singapore to take the gold in 4:39.01 while team-mate Coates was less than a second behind in silver.

At the end of the first leg Rudin was trailing at the back of the field but kept her composure to stick to her race plan. She hit the front before the half way point and then took the race all the way to the wall for the gold.

Cameron Kurle was also in finals action on day one and came very close to a podium finish. In the Men’s 400m Freestyle Kurle eventually came fifth in a tight finish just 3/100s of a second outside of the medals.

Katie Matts (W 50m Breaststroke), Luke Greenbank (M 100m Backstroke) and Charlie Attwood (M 100m Breaststroke) all safely negotiated themselves through the rounds for a place in their respective finals tomorrow night.
