Ross Murdoch, Michael Jamieson and Hannah Miley warmed up for this week’s British Gas Swimming Championships with a series of impressive performances at the Scottish Gas National Open Swimming Championships in Tollcross.
The British record was in my mind having come close in January at the Flanders Cup in Antwerp, but to set it in the morning was a bit of a surprise,"

The 20-year old backed that performance up with a Scottish record 59.75 effort to claim the 100m Breaststroke title ahead of Jamieson in a season’s best 1:00.82.
“I came into the meet unrested so to post the time is a big relief," said Murdoch. "The British record was in my mind having come close in January at the Flanders Speedo Cup in Antwerp, but to set it in the morning was a bit of a surprise, albeit a good one. It shows consistency which I’m pleased about.”
Olympic silver medallist Jamieson came out on top in the 200m Breast, setting the fastest time in the world this year to claim victory on 2:08.01 ahead of Murdoch’s 2:09.15 personal best for silver.
Miley put in a typically dominant performance in the women’s events at Tollcross, setting a season’s best 4:35.48 for the 400m Individual Medley title before adding another five golds in the 200m IM (2:12.94), 800m Free (8:36.49), 400m Free (4:11.69), 200m Breast (2:30.61) and 200m Fly (2:12.66).
Among the other multiple medallists in Glasgow were Robbie Renwick, who secured a freestyle hat-trick over 100m (50.13), 200m (1:47.60) and 400m (3:48.34), and Craig McNally, who landed gold in the 100m Backstroke (55.42) and 200m Back (1:58.87).
