Lizzie Simmonds has won gold in the 200m Backstroke on the first day of the Monaco Mare Nostrum in Monte Carlo.
The British Gas National Centre Bath swimmer touched in at 2:10.17 to finish ahead of Ukraine’s Daryna Zevina in 2:10.79 and Germany’s Sonnelle Özturk in 2:12.36.
In the men’s 200m Breaststroke, Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson touched in at 2:12.34 to win silver. Germany’s Marco Koch took gold (2:08.43) and Japan’s Yasuhiro Koseki took bronze (2:12.78).
Jemma Lowe swam a season’s best to finish second in the 100m Butterfly. The British Gas National Centre Bath swimmer touched in at 58.13 with Jeanette Ottesen (Denmark) taking gold in 57.46 and Liliana Szilagyi (Hungary) finishing third in 59.04.
In the 400m Medley Garioch’s Hannah Miley finished just outside her season’s best to take silver in 4:35.70. Katinka Hosszu from Hungary took gold with 4:33.80 while Kamiko Simizu from Japan took bronze with 4:38.53.
In the 100m Backstroke Chris Walker-Hebborn (British Gas National Centre Bath) finished third with 54.61 behind Japan’s Ryosuke Irie (53.08) and Junya Koga (54.25).
Elsewhere, Siobhan-Marie O’Connor (British Gas National Centre Bath) clocked 1:58.58 in the 200m Freestyle to take fifth, and was just outside her season’s best with 58.88 to win the 100m Butterfly B final.
