28 Oct 2014

Francesca Halsall, Siobhan Marie O’Connor and Stephanie Slater have been shortlisted in the Sunday Times & Sky Sports Sportswoman of the Year Awards 2014.

Halsall has been nominated in the Sportswoman of the Year category after excelling throughout 2014 with four medals at the Commonwealth Games and then went on to win five medals at the European Championships.

The Loughborough-based swimmer won gold in both events in the 50m Freestyle but she added gold in a new event, 50m Backstroke, to her medal tally in Berlin.

O’Connor has been shortlisted in the Young Sportswoman of the Year category after winning her first British title with gold in 200m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley in March.

She then made her Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow and returned as England’s most successful swimmer of the meet, collecting six medals from her six events, including gold in the 200m IM with a new British record time.

Slater features in the Disability Sportswoman of the Year category after being one of the standout performances from the IPC European Championships this summer.

The National Performance Centre-based swimmer competed at her first Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and won silver before travelling over to Eindhoven and winning seven gold medals.

The winners will be announced on 19 November during a live Awards show on Sky Sports.
