A group of eight British swimmers are in Nanjing, China preparing for the start of the second Summer Youth Olympic Games.
Taking place from 16-28 August 2014, the swimmers are part of a Team GB squad of 33 athletes that will compete across 14 sports.
World junior medallist Jessica Fullalove, who competed at her first Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last month, said: “I'm really looking forward to competing. I've raced and won medals at a number of overseas swimming competitions but to be part of such a big multi-sport event is going to be a fantastic experience.
“Being selected to be part of Team GB is an amazing feeling and I can't wait to wear the Olympic rings in China."
Joining Fullalove will be European Junior 200m Individual Medley champion Duncan Scott who also competed in Glasgow. He said: “Utrecht 2013 for the European Youth Olympic Festival was amazing and I loved being part of the wider Team GB with all the other athletes. I performed well there, picking up four medals in total, so I’m hopeful of continuing that success in Nanjing.”
Nathan Hilton, Team Leader for Swimming, added: “The Youth Olympic Games will give these young athletes a fantastic learning experience in a multi-sport environment, which is an important part of a swimmers development, and I’m sure will help them progress and set them up well for stepping up to the senior level.”
The swimming competition takes place over six days from 17 – 22 August at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre Natatorium.
