Two golds for Great Britain on penultimate day

23 Aug 2014

Francesca Halsall and Adam Peaty both took gold medals on the penultimate day of the European Championships to add to the British Gas GBR Swimming team’s impressive medal tally.

Fresh from breaking the world record in last night’s semi final, Peaty returned to the pool to try and secure his second individual European title.

Peaty showed his power through the final 25m to storm back through the field to take the gold medal.

There was an exciting one-two for Great Britain in the women’s 50m Backstroke with Halsall taking the gold and Georgia Davies winning silver.

Halsall won her first title in a Backstroke event with an excellent swim but took the race with her strong finish.

She touched just a whisker ahead of her team-mate to take the gold in a new personal best time of 27.81 with Davies finishing just behind.

Adam Barrett just missed out on a medal after touching in fourth place in the 100m Butterfly.

Ben Proud progressed into the final as the second fastest qualifier for the final of the 50m Freestyle. He qualified just behind Olympic Champion Florent Manaudou.

Halsall backed up her gold medal performance by qualifying second fastest for the final of the 50m Freestyle.
