Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow win Team England’s third diving gold medal of Gold Coast 2018 in the Men’s 10m Synchro.
Despite a dropped dive in the sixth round, Daley and Goodfellow finished with a point’s total of 405.81 and sealed the podium-topping finish.
The pair’s penultimate round dive, a back three and a half somersaults piked with a 3.6 degree of difficulty, was their highest scoring dive achieving 90.72 points.
Following the medal ceremony, Goodfellow said: "Five out of six of those dives were really really good and especially at this time of year, it's only April so yeah, really happy with how that went today."
Daley added, "It's been a really rough ride to get to this point today with the hip injury and that's why this medal means so much today.
"I've been doing everything I can to get to that starting line today because that's been the difficult thing, to be ready with my dives to compete, so I'm very happy with the way it turned out.
The silver medal also went to Team England with Noah Williams and Matthew Dixon just under six points behind the gold medallists with 399.99. Bronze went to the Australian pair of Dominic Bedggood and Declan Stacey, their score 397.92.
This is Daley’s fourth commonwealth title, he first won the platform synchro event at the Delhi 2010 Games with Max Brick, followed by a silver at Glasgow 2014. For Goodfellow, it’s a first Commonwealth Games title and gold medal.
Team Scotland also feature in the final, James Heatly and Lucas Thomson finished a very respectable fifth and a total of 369.60 points.
Team England’s Women’s 3m Synchro bronze medallists Alicia Blagg and Kat Torrance were back on the boards, this time in the individual 1m prelims. Also starting her Gold Coast 2018 programme was Scotland’s, Grace Reid.
Blagg was the highest ranked home nation qualifier, she finished in fifth with a score of 259.90, followed by Torrance with 259.55 points in sixth.
Less than a single point separated Reid from Blagg, she closed the prelims placed seventh with a point’s total of 259.25.
All three will dive again in the Women’s 1m Final later today, followed by the Men’s 3m Synchro final.
