Team England’s Matthew Dixon took silver in the Men’s 10m Platform on the final night of the Gold Coast 2018 diving competition.
It was an almost faultless prelim that saw Dixon comfortably book himself into the Commonwealth final ranked top.
Dixon’s best dive of the final came in the third round, a Back 3½ Somersaults Tucked, racked up a total of 82.50 and put him into medal contention early in the floodlit event.
His final dive, a Back 2½ Somersaults 1½ Twists Piked, scored him 67.20 and landed him his second medal of these Commonwealth Games following silver in the 10m Synchro.
The Plymouth-based diver finished with a final score of 449.55, less than two point’s behind Australian hometown hero Domonic Bedggood, his score 451.15 and claimed the gold.
Bronze went to Canada’s Vincent Riendeau, his final score was 425.40.
Dixon explained afterwards, “My final dive just wasn’t quite sharp enough at the end and that’s why I finished second but I’m still really happy with the silver medal
“A lot of positives came out of that final, I just need to work on sharper entries into the water for my next events.
Following the podium finishers, a trio of home nation athletes were placed with Dixon’s English teammate and synchro partner Noah Williams in fourth with a score of 405.85 that following the delivery of a very consistent set of dives.
Scotland’s Lucas Thomson, continued an impressive Commonwealth Games debut at just sixteen years old, he ranked behind Williams in fifth, and his final point’s total was 402.80.
Aidan Heslop (Wales) put in another steady performance, the only Welsh diver on the Gold Coast, he placed sixth with 395.95.
Matty Lee (England) struggled through the final after picking up a tricep injury in training but battled on to complete his six dives and finished 11th with 341.20.
