Hamer & Robinson Shortlisted for Young SPOTY

Para-swimmers Tom Hamer and Ellie Robinson have been shortlisted for the BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year.

Hamer has had an excellent 2016 season on the international stage with two individual silver medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympics; his debut Games and set new British records in both events.

Earlier in 2016 the 18-year-old also took gold in the 200m freestyle at the IPC Swimming European Championships, setting a new British record of 1.57.27.

Robinson made her mark on 2016 by breaking the Paralympic record in Rio to take gold in the 50m Butterfly then concluded her competition with bronze in the 100m Freestyle.

She had an outstanding debut international in Funchal at the IPC Swimming European Championships where she claimed four medals including silver in the 50m freestyle.

The top three, chosen by an expert panel, will be named on Blue Peter on Thursday, 8 December with the overall winner being announced during the live SPOTY show on Sunday 18 December.

The winner will follow in the footsteps of Andy Murray and Wayne Rooney with previous aquatic winners including Ellie Simmonds and Tom Daley.
